Only one of our readers, who goes by the online pseudonym iknowtruthismine, shared a tip for using coffee in recipes.
"I use coffee in my bread machine in place of just water," he wrote. "Sometimes I will add instant coffee to the liquid drained off of chickpeas and use that (as the liquid in a bread recipe). It imparts a rich color and deeper flavor that enhances the whole-wheat flour I like to substitute in place of some of the white bread flour. If you want to see a weird color add instant coffee to beet juice strained from canned beets and use that (in a bread recipe).
Here are a couple of other uses for coffee, although we can't promise the excitement of odd colors.
