Vic: ALP agrees with police chief on files checks for MPs
The Victorian Labor Party says it accepts a decision by police not to conduct a masscheck of whether records of MPs and election candidates have been inappropriately accessed.
State party secretary ERIK LOCKE says the ALP did ask for checks on the accessing offiles on its MPs and candidates since 1992.
But Police Chief Commissioner CHRISTINE NIXON has said a complete audit would be awaste of police resources, and checks will only be made for five MPs from each party.
Mr LOCKE says Labor agrees with this approach.
But the National Party has rejected Ms NIXON's decision.
A spokesman for Nationals leader PETER RYAN says it's a matter of the highest importanceand must be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
